Dublin: In light of the growing threat of COVID in Ireland, the HSE has issued a strict warning. The HSE has issued an alert following the recent increase in COVID hospital admissions and outbreaks in nursing homes.
It is estimated that the interaction of large numbers of people during the Christmas and New Year period will result in a large infection due to the increase in COVID. Meanwhile, the spread of other diseases, such as influenza, which was avoided due to COVID restrictions in 2020 and 2021, will put strain on the health-care system.
HSE CEO Stephen Mulvany said the impact of COVID was still being seen, so heightened vigilance was necessary in the Christmas-to-January period.
Hospitals and community health care organisations are continuing vaccinations against influenza and COVID based on the winter plan. He urged everyone to get vaccinated and to take precautions.
Every day over the last seven days, an average of 329 people have been diagnosed with COVID-19 positive cases. Covid-19 has infected 489 people. Of these, 11 are in the intensive care unit, and 88 new cases have been reported. Meanwhile, 31 people were discharged.
