Days of celebrations for Irish pubs and nightclubs once the COVID restrictions are lifted

DUBLIN: With the unveiling of plans to increase the operating hours of pubs and nightclubs, it’ll be days of celebration for the people, once the health restrictions on the hospitality sector are lifted.

The reforms will allow nightclubs to remain open until 2:30 am. Pubs will have more working hours on Sundays. There are indications that the government is considering revising the trade rules and off-licenses for the sale of liquor. Justice Minister Helen McEntee said plans were needed to change the country’s licensing laws to strengthen the hospitality sector.

The Ireland’s Licensed Vintners Association has come out with a compliment that the government is on the right track. LVA Vice Chairman, Noel Anderson, described it as “a step in the right direction.”

The government’s move is seen as sufficient to save the country’s ailing hospitality sector. Many struggling businesses have been forced to remain closed for the past 12 months. The government has also indicated that it will make concessions, including in the license rules, to help them.
