Death toll from COVID-19 has crossed five million in US

WASHINGTON: More than five million people have died of COVID-19 in the United States. The number of COVID deaths in the US is more than the number of Americans killed in both World Wars and the Vietnam War.

President Joe Biden described five million COVID deaths as “heartbreaking milestone”. At a ceremony held at the White House to pay tribute to the dead, 500 lamps were lit.

Meanwhile, the total number of coronavirus victims worldwide stands at 11.23 crore. The US has the highest number of COVID victims (2.88 crore), followed by India (1.10 crore), Brazil (1.01 crore), Russia (41.8 lakh) and the UK (41.2 lakh).

A total of 5,00,071 people have died of COVID-19 infection in the US so far. Brazil-2,47,276, Mexico-1,80,536, the other countries with the highest number of COVID deaths.
