“Deposit Return Scheme: Mandatory Return Logo on All Products; 150 Million Drink Containers Returned”

Dublin: The deposit return scheme, implemented as part of waste management efforts, has successfully facilitated the return of 150 million drink containers. This initiative, supported by 2,300 reverse vending machines nationwide, has significantly reduced the litter problem caused by bottles and containers on public streets.

It is now legally mandatory for all products for sale to display the return logo. A new charity will soon collaborate in operating the re-turn scheme. In the coming days, staff from the Return Company, in partnership with the charity, will collect drink containers at the Bloom Festival in Phoenix Park, with proceeds benefiting the charity.

Impressive Returns and Growth

Since the re-turn scheme’s inception on February 1, the return of plastic containers has been steadily increasing. In May alone, more than 75 million containers were returned. Initially, in February, the total collection was 2 million units. Currently, the scheme sees an impressive return rate of 2.5 million units daily.
