Dublin Bay South by-election: Labour Party is on track to win, with Fine Gael close behind

DUBLIN: The Dublin Bay result hints at a heavy blow to the ruling parties.

Tallies suggest that the Labour Party will win the Dublin Bay South by-election. The results will be announced soon after the split votes are counted.

In a constituency of equal importance to Dublin’s VVIPs and ordinary workers, Micheál Martin’s Fianna Fáil, Leo Varadkar’s Fine Gael and Eamon Ryan’s Green Party are on the verge of defeat.

Dublin Bay South is the stronghold of the Labour Party. If the party acts on cadre behavior, Labour has as much influence as it can win in any situation.

Preliminary indications are that Labour Senator Ivana Bacik has received 30.17% of the first-preference vote. Tallies hints that the Labour Party will win the first round without the advantage of transfer votes. Fine Gael and Sinn Féin are second (26%) and third (15.8%), respectively.

Claire Byrne of the Green Party received 7.9% of the vote, while Fianna Fáil’s Deirdre Conroy received less than 5% and Independent Mannix Flynn received 3%.
