Elon Musk mocks Twitter rival Mastodon

Elon Musk, Twitter’s new owner, is criticising the platform’s rival, Mastodon, but some may argue he’s gone too far this time. In a now-deleted post, he lashed out at people complaining about Twitter’s recent upgrades and invited them to join “masterbatedone” if they had a problem. Musk’s mocking Mastodon post came at a time when the latter’s servers had been down for many users for hours. Since Twitter’s ownership changed last week, some users have left to join competitors like Koo and Mastodon.

What exactly is Mastodon?
Mastodon is not a new platform, but it acquired a large amount of popularity in India in 2019. After Twitter terminated top Supreme Court attorney Sanjay Hegde’s account, many people migrated to Mastodon.

Mastodon’s business model differs from that of Twitter. Mastodon is an open-source microblogging service that operates in a decentralised fashion, unlike Twitter, and is not run from a single headquarters. It is instead powered by separate servers from all around the world. Mastodon users “toot” their thoughts rather than “tweet” them.
