Gardaí Rescue Women from Trafficking Racket Operating Brothels
Dublin: Harrowing details have emerged following the rescue of several women from Dublin brothels, where they were subjected to severe exploitation. Victims revealed they were forced to have sex with up to 13 men a day, working as many as 18 hours, with only one day off each month.
The operation, carried out last week by Gardaí in collaboration with Brazilian police and Interpol, led to the arrest of four individuals in Ireland and five in Brazil. Investigators believe the network trafficked around 70 women from Brazil into Ireland for prostitution.
According to Gardaí documents, the women endured conditions described as “nightmarish”. Some were forced to work for up to 24 hours without rest. They were provided with phones by managers, who dictated how many clients they would serve. Victims were fined up to €150 for being even one minute late and subjected to verbal abuse. Penalties were also imposed for trivial matters, such as playing music too loudly.
Clients were charged up to €250 per encounter, but the majority of the money was kept by the organisers. Victims received only small payments twice a week.
The trafficking ring is believed to have lured women from clubs in the Brazilian state of Santa Catarina, trapping them once they arrived in Ireland.
Gardaí have appealed to the public to report any suspicions of trafficking to their local Garda station or through the confidential helpline at 1800 666 111, stressing that victims are often unable to seek help themselves.
