India recorded a historic victory in the fourth test match against Australia. The visitors won the series for 2-1 by defeating the hosts by three wickets. The stunning victory helped team India to retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
While Australia lost the series in Brisbane for first time since 1988, India registered their first win in Aussies’s fortess Gabba. It also has the distinction of being India’s second consecutive series win on Australian soil.
Chasing a target of 328 in the second innings, the Indian batsmen chased down the target with three overs to spare. Shubman Gill’s 91 runs, Cheteshwar Pujara’s 56 runs, and Rishabh Pant’s unbeaten 89 runs of 138 deliveries were crucial to India’s victory.
Rishabh Pant, who played a T20-like knock, was awarded the player of the match, while Pat Cummins was recognised as the player of the series for his brilliant performance throughout the series and for registering four wickets in the final test match.
Despite the absence of senior players like Virat Kohli, Ishant Sharma, Mohammed Shami,Jasprit Bumrah, R. Ashwin, the Indian team performed specially well on Australian soil.
The performance of the Indian youngsters and the calm and composed captaincy by Ajinkya Rahane in the absence of skipper Virat Kohli is highly commendable.
