HSE figures indicate violence against nurses, doctors, health workers is on the rise in Ireland

Dublin: HSE figures show that violence against nurses, doctors, and other healthcare workers is on the rise in Ireland. When an attack occurs, the nurses are unable to complain and must bear everything silently. The ruling party itself has raised a demand to review the security arrangements in the hospitals in light of this reality.
There has been a call to investigate whether the culprits of attacks on health workers are being properly punished. Abuse of medical professionals can never be justified. Those working in this field agree that every punishment should reflect this.

33,341 attacks on nurses.

There have been 33,341 attacks on nurses in the last seven years. There were also 733 attacks on doctors.

Despite praise for their selfless service, there have been 7,737 assaults on nursing staff.

According to the INMO report, 5593 verbal, physical, or sexual assaults were reported between January 2021 and October 2022. INMO General Secretary Phil Ni Sheaghdha demanded that the number of acts of violence is increasing day by day and that prompt action must be taken against such attacks.

Atrocities; INMO requires action.

According to the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organization, nurses and midwives face severe harassment. Every year, a slew of assaults, harassment, intimidation, abuse, and humiliation are reported.

INMO General Secretary Phil Ni Sheaghdha said it was unacceptable to be attacked while working. The majority of the nurses are female. We need to know what steps the government and HSE are taking to protect them, according to Sheaghdha. Sheaghdha added that the increase in the number of assault incidents is worrisome.

Fine Gael TD Neale Richmond said the figures reveal the scale of the problem facing health workers in our country.

He urged the HSE to conduct a thorough audit of existing security measures in hospitals and healthcare facilities.

There have been complaints that the Health and Safety Authority is not taking adequate precautions to protect staff from the growing number of attacks.
