Hundreds of vacancies await job seekers in Ireland as labour market booms
DUBLIN: Ireland’s job market is also booming as it prepares to reopen after overcoming the COVID-19 crisis. Hundreds of job opportunities await job seekers. Many businesses had to shut down due to the pandemic, and if they want to restart, they would need to recruit enough employees.
If things continue as they are, it is expected that more employment will become available in Ireland by September for all those who have been vaccinated. With this in mind, employers are planning to hire in the near future, according to online recruiter Indeed.
With the easing of restrictions, 75% of employers across the country are planning for new hires, Indeed said. The number of job vacancies posted on its website in Ireland has surpassed pre-pandemic levels, currently standing 18% higher than in February of last year.
Siobhan O’Shea, vice president of the National Recruitment Federation and director of CPL, said the job market was booming in most sectors.
Vacancies range from indoor dining to childcare
With the resumption of indoor dining, more and more employees at pubs and restaurants have returned to work. According to the website, there are several job openings here as well.
Most vacancies are in veterinary, therapy, community and social services, agriculture, pharmacy, customer service and child care. Job postings in the hard-hit retail sector are 68% higher than in February of last year.
Beauty and wellness, industrial and electrical engineering, architecture, education, insurance, and GP and surgeon jobs are the most vulnerable.
PUP buyers are declining
The number of Pandemic Unemployment Payment (PUP) claimants has reached a record low. There are currently 163,327 claimants, a decrease of 29,000 from the previous week as more employees returned to work in pubs and restaurants. There were more than 600,000 people on the PUP last year.
