DUBLIN: A large crowd protested yesterday evening outside Áras an Uachtaráin (official residence and workplace of the President of Ireland) against COVID-19 vaccines and new legislation to allow for the re-opening of indoor hospitality.
A mob of approximately 400 people gathered at the entrance to the Áras on Chesterfield Avenue in the Phoenix Park. Some protesters wore Irish tricolors and carried flags and posters.
The protest was targeted at President Michael D Higgins, who is set to sign the Amendment Bill, which allows for the phased reopen of indoor hospitality. The crowd cheered and chanted “Shame on You”.
Several demonstrators carried banners and posters with statements alleging that the Covid-19 vaccines are harmful to people. Some others were holding placards that called for the removal of the government.
The protest started around 7pm yesterday.
Two days ago, a similar protest took place outside the convention center in Dublin City Center. Hundreds of people came to express their displeasure with the Digital Covid Certificate, which allows people to travel across Europe and have access to indoor dining.
