Hurricane Milton Hits Florida, Leaving 14 Dead and Millions Without Power Before Moving Into Atlantic
Hurricane Milton tore through Florida on Wednesday night, leaving a trail of destruction, killing at least 14 people, and knocking out power for over 2.6 million homes. The storm, which made landfall as a Category 3 hurricane with 120 mph winds, caused widespread flooding, damaged homes, and triggered tornadoes. Despite the devastation, Governor Ron DeSantis noted that Florida avoided the “worst-case scenario” as Milton weakened before landfall, reducing the expected storm surge. Among the hardest-hit areas were St. Petersburg, Volusia County, and St. Lucie County. The hurricane exited into the Atlantic by Thursday afternoon, no longer a threat, while recovery efforts, particularly in areas struck by tornadoes, are underway.
