India seal their spot in WTC final after winning the series 3-1 against England

India defeated England by an innings and 25 runs in the fourth and final Test in Ahmedabad. With this, India bagged the four-match series 3-1 and sealed a spot in the final of the inaugural edition of the World Test Championship, to be held at Lord’s on June 18, 2021.

England opted to bat first and after winning the toss and was bowled out for 205. Once again, India’s all-rounders Axar Patel and Ravichandran Ashwin blazed with the bowl for India by picking up four and three wickets, respectively, in the first innings.

Meanwhile, India responded with a huge lead of 160 runs, scoring 365. While India’s top order batsmen failed to score against English bowlers, it was Rishabh Pant (101) and Washington Sundar (96 not out) set the tone for India’s massive innings victory.

With the exception of Rohit Sharma (49), other top order players, including captain Virat Kohli (0), have not been able to make an impact on the Indian scoreboard.

Visitors who came out to play the second innings on the third day (today) of the match couldn’t do much against the Indian spinners. Ravi Ashwin and Axar Patel picked up five-wicket hauls and restricted England to 135.

Wicket keeper Rishabh Pant awarded Player of the match for his stunning century, while Ashwin received Player of the series award for his brave all-round performance throughout the series.
