India successfully carried out a test launch: Prithvi-II missile has been an integral part of India’s nuclear deterrence

On Tuesday, India successfully launched the tactical ballistic missile Prithvi-II from a test range off the coast of Odisha.

“On January 10, a successful training launch of a short-range ballistic missile, Prithvi-II, was carried out from the Integrated Test Range, Chandipur, off the coast of Odisha,” the ministry said in a statement.

“A well-established system, the Prithvi-II missile has been an integral part of India’s nuclear deterrence. “The missile hit its target with pinpoint accuracy,” it said.
According to the ministry, the user training launch successfully validated all operational and technical parameters of the missile.
The missile, which is powered by twin light propulsion engines, has a range of approximately 350 kilometres and can carry 500–1,000 kg of warheads. To hit the target, it uses an advanced inertial navigation system.

The Prithvi-II was previously successfully tested during the night hours in 2018 and 2019.

The DRDO created Prithvi as part of the Integrated Guided Missile Development Programme.
