Indians continue to surge in terms of obtaining work permits in Ireland

Dublin: The number of Indians obtaining work permits in Ireland continues to rise. According to figures released by the Enterprise Department for the first six months of this year, approximately 40% of newly obtained work permits are Indian citizens.

From January to June 30, a total of 15336 work permits were issued to 15336 nationals from other countries, of whom 5855 were held by Indians.

Brazil ranks second in terms of obtaining work permits (1388). The Philippines ranks third with 1334 permits. Figures from other countries who obtained work permits include China (723), South Africa (604), Pakistan (773), and Nigeria (421).

India is also at the forefront in terms of visa denials. A total of 833 applications were rejected out of which 191 were Indians.

The health and social work sectors received the highest number of work permits. A wide range of work permits were also issued in the Information & Communication sector.

Staff shortages are also affecting the health and social care sectors the most. According to the Institute of Public Health, by 2051, Ireland will have more than 2.1 million people aged 65 and over, many of whom will need additional care.
