The All-India Senior Selection Committee announced the Indian squad for the inaugural ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final against New Zealand and the five-match Test series against England on Friday.
The first stop for Team India will be in Southampton on June 18th, where they will face New Zealand to determine the first champion of the Test format. Indian players are expected to leave England on June 2.
Due to the length of the tour and possible contingencies due to the COVID-19 pandemic, India is carrying a total of 24 players, four of whom are standby players.
India’s squad: Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Mayank Agarwal, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli (Captain), Ajinkya Rahane (vice-captain), Hanuma Vihari, Rishabh Pant (wicket-keeper), R. Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Jasprit Bumrah, Ishant Sharma, Mohd. Shami, Md. Siraj, Shardul Thakur, Umesh Yadav, KL Rahul (subject to fitness clearance), Wriddhiman Saha (wicket-keeper; subject to fitness clearance).
Standby players: Abhimanyu Easwaran, Prasidh Krishna, Avesh Khan, Arzan Nagwaswalla
All-rounder Hardik Pandya, India’s star bowlers Bhuvneshwar Kumar and left-arm spinner Kuldeep Yadav failed to find a place in the team. Mohammed Shami, Ravindra Jadeja, and Hanuma Vihari have all returned to the squad after missing the recent home Tests against England due to injuries.
