INMO addressed Oireachtas Committee on the need for compensation of frontline healthcare workers

DUBLIN: The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation (INMO) addressed the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Health yesterday about the protections of frontline healthcare workers.

The INMO told the committee yesterday that the important role played by nurses and midwives in the Irish health services during the COVID-19 pandemic was enormous and that some compensation should be given for their work.

“Nurses and midwives have faced unprecedented challenges and pressures during the pandemic, the effects of which will be felt for a long time to come,” the union said.

At the same time, INMO had submitted a petition to the Oireachtas committee. It was stated in the petition that healthcare workers in Northern Ireland and Scotland receive a one-time bonus of €500 and a special payment of €1,500 for health workers in France.

The INMO said in a statement that frontline health care workers have been facing major challenges since the onset of Pandemic. It also points out that the safety of workers has not been given adequate priority.
