The Netherlands won the relay final in spectacular manner, with 400-metre hurdles champion Femke Bol making up enormous ground in the home straight to beat Jamaica to the gold medal. The United Kingdom won bronze.

It was a comeback for Bol, who dropped the baton just metres from the finish line in the 4x400m mixed relay last weekend.

The Irish team, which had exceeded expectations by reaching the final, finished eighth, with Sharlene Mawdsley running a strong last leg to pull them past France, which finished ninth.
