Ireland’s oldest woman, Máirín Hughes, has passed away at the age of 109

Máirn Hughes, Ireland’s oldest lady, passed away at the age of 109.

Mairin was a resident of Maryfield Nursing Home in Chapelizod, Dublin, and she turned 109 in May.

According to Dublin Live, she died peacefully on Tuesday after a brief illness, surrounded by her Maryfield community.

Marin’s death was reported on social media by the nursing home, which said, “It is with great sadness that we share the news of our beautiful Mairin’s passing; may her gentle soul rest in peace.”

“All at Maryfield, including management, staff, residents, and religious sisters, would like to take this opportunity to say that Marn was an inspirational lady who taught us so much about life,” Maryfield Nursing Home said in a separate statement.

“She was knowledgeable and kind.” She was passionate about nature and volunteering in her community, and religion was an important aspect of her life.

Maryfield’s director of nursing, Orla Quigg, paid tribute to Marin, who had been a resident for almost 30 years.
