Dublin: Outgoing Irish President Michael D. Higgins has been admitted to St. James’s Hospital following a mild health setback, Áras an Uachtaráin has confirmed.
The President is receiving antibiotic treatment for an infection described as non-serious, and is expected to return to Áras an Uachtaráin shortly once his condition stabilises.
President Higgins, who will remain in office until the inauguration of President-elect Catherine Connolly at Dublin Castle on November 11, has continued to fulfil essential duties during his hospital stay.
Meanwhile, President Higgins personally telephoned Catherine Connolly to congratulate her on her election victory, extending his best wishes as she prepares to assume the presidency.
