Israel Launches New Airstrikes in Beirut Suburbs Ahead of October 7 Hamas Attack Anniversary

Israel continued its airstrikes on Lebanon, particularly targeting Beirut suburbs, ahead of the October 7 anniversary of Hamas’s attack. On Sunday, airstrikes in Qamatiyeh, southeast of Beirut, killed six people, including three children, according to Lebanon’s health ministry. Hezbollah retaliated by launching missiles at Haifa, injuring 10 people. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed to achieve victory and praised the military’s efforts since Hamas’s attack. Hezbollah accused Israel of hindering rescue operations in Beirut, where senior leader Hashem Safieddine was believed to be during the bombing. The escalating conflict involving Iran-backed groups threatens to draw in the U.S., while UN peacekeepers in southern Lebanon expressed concern over their safety amid the ongoing military operations. French President Emmanuel Macron reiterated France’s commitment to Israel’s security while also calling for a ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon.
