January 30 is observed as “Martyr’s Day” in memory of Mahatma Gandhi 

Shaheed Diwas messages for Martyrs’ Day: On January 30, 1948, Nathuram Godse assassinated Mahatma Gandhi as he was leaving Birla House after evening prayers. Every year on January 30th, India honours Martyrs’ Day, or “Shaheed Diwas,” to honour the nation’s father, Mahatma Gandhi, and the soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice as freedom fighters in defence of their motherland. A two-minute silence in memory of Indian martyrs is observed throughout the country at 11 am.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to the “Father of the Nation” and said that his sacrifices will never be forgotten.

President Droupadi Murmu paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat in Delhi.
