Learner driver confirmed positive at the COVID-19 checkpoint test; not for virus, but for drugs

A learner driver has been arrested at the COVID-19 checkpoint in Naas by Gardai. The driver was arrested because he was found to be positive on a drug test.

The incident took place on Monday evening while operating Operation Fanacht checkpoint in Naas.

The driver was stopped during the operation, and Garda checked his credentials. Thus he was found to be driving as an unaccompanied learner.

After that, the driver was subjected to a drug test. Gardai confirmed that the driver was under the influence of cocaine.

Following this, the Gardai arrested the driver and seized his car.

“The driver was arrested and the car was seized. Proceedings to follow,” A Garda spokesperson said.
