Leaving Certificate Results Show Decline in Top Grades
Dublin: The results of this year’s Leaving Certificate examinations were released this morning and distributed to schools by 10 a.m.
For the first time in five years, the trend of grade inflation has been significantly scaled back, leading to a decline in the number of students achieving top marks. The proportion of H1 grades has fallen from 14.3% in 2024 to 11.7% this year, with a similar drop recorded for O1 grades. Overall, results are notably lower than in recent years.
A total of 65,444 candidates sat the exams, representing a 7.4% increase compared to last year. The larger cohort is expected to intensify competition for third-level places through the Central Applications Office (CAO).
This year’s examinations also marked a milestone, with 549 students sitting the Leaving Certificate in the Ukrainian language for the first time.
