Mortal remains of Soumya Santhosh, Indian woman killed in Israel, arrived in India this morning; funeral will be held tomorrow in her hometown

The mortal remains of Soumya Santhosh, an Indian woman who lost her life in a rocket attack by Hamas militants in Israel, arrived in New Delhi today (Saturday) morning. The funeral of 30-year-old will be held at Nithya Sahaya Matha Church in Keerithodu, Idukki, Kerala, tomorrow.

Mortal remains, which arrived in Delhi at around 4 am today, was received by Central Government officials and Israel Embassy officials. Soumya’s remains will be brought to her native Idukki district this evening. Idukki Diocese President Mar John Nellikkunnel will officiate the funeral service which will begin at 2 pm tomorrow. Israeli diplomats will also attend the funeral service.

Israeli Deputy envoy Rony Yedidia Clein and Union Minister of State (MoS) for External Affairs V Muraleedharan paid their last respect to Soumya in the national capital.

“With a heavy heart, received the mortal remains of Ms. Soumya Santhosh in Delhi and paid my last respects. CDA of Israel Embassy @RonyYedidia also joined. I empathise with the pain and sufferings of the family of Ms. Soumya. More strength to them,” Mr. Muraleedharan tweeted.

Soumya has been working as a caretaker in Israel for the past seven years. Soumya was killed when a rocket landed on her house while she was talking to her husband Santhosh on a video call. The Diocese of Idukki expressed deep sorrow over the separation of Soumya Santosh.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan also conveyed his condolences to the bereaved family of Soumya. “We are in touch with the Indian Embassy in Israel to ensure that the mortal remains of Soumya Santhosh who was killed in Israel is brought back to Kerala and handed over to her family as soon as possible. Heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Soumya,” CM had said on Wednesday.
