DUBLIN: A new study shows that the Irish passport is among the best in the world for entrepreneurs.
In a study based on a ranking of 199 regions, the Irish passport has been ranked the second best in the world for business men and women. Sweden also shares second place with Ireland, while Luxembourg has secured top spot.
Switzerland, Belgium, Finland, Portugal, Singapore, the Czech Republic and the Netherlands are among the top ten countries in terms of the best passports. Afghanistan, Iraq, Yemen, Syria and Eritrea are at the bottom of the list.
The ranking was based on factors such as visa-free travel, international taxation laws, global perception, dual citizenship, and personal freedom.
“Ireland offers one of Europe’s lowest corporate tax rates, yet its passport’s visa scores are among the highest. The country’s excellent reputation makes travelling as an Irish citizen generally hassle-free,” said Andrew Henderson, founder of Nomad Capitalist, which compiled the report.
Irish passports also rank high in other surveys. It holds sixth place in Henley and Partners index last year and fourth place in Arton’s Capital’s annual ranking.
