No Digital Covid Cert for Irish passport holders in Northern Ireland

DUBLIN: Holders of Irish passports in Northern Ireland will not receive the benefit of the EU Digital Covid Certificate. Many Irish passport holders in NI will not be able to get the certificate because they were not vaccinated in the Republic.

Over two million people in the Republic of Ireland received their certificates last week. The DCC, which facilitates the return of non-essential international travel, came into force today in the Republic of Ireland.

It is learned that the certificate could not be issued as there are no official records of their vaccination.

Minister for Foreign Affairs Simon Coveney said the issue was being looked into and a solution will be found soon.

The Northern Ireland Department of Health has said that an international travel app for fully vaccinated people would be available soon.

People who have been fully vaccinated, have recovered from COVID-19, or have had a negative PCR test within 72 hours of arrival will receive a DCC and will be able to travel freely to Ireland from countries within the EU, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland. It is also available to non-EU citizens residing legally in EU member states.
