Number of Covid victims per day getting closer to 5,000 in Ireland

The number of Covid victims is on the rise again in the country.

Yesterday, the Department of Health reported 4,962 new cases of corona virus and seven deaths.

With this, the number of Covid-19 cases in Ireland exceeded one lakh, bringing the total to 101,887. The death toll from the virus has risen to 2,259.

The new cases confirmed yesterday include 2,408 men and 2,539 women. A total of 62 people have been admitted to the intensive care unit. Covid patients have been admitted to hospitals continuously since day before yesterday.

In many hospitals, the maximum number of beds is reported to be reserved for Covid patients.

The fact that the average age of new cases is 36 is a matter of concern. The National Public Health Emergency Team said in a statement that 63% of all cases are under the age of 45.

Of the 1,260 cases reported yesterday, 1,260 were in Dublin, 652 in Limerick, 350 in Cork, 321 in Lot, 238 in Meteor and 2,141 in all other counties.

The Chief Medical Officer said the increase in the number of Covid-19 cases was uncontrollable and people should work together to resolve the issue as soon as possible.

Health officials have repeatedly said that the situation in which 331 out of a lakh people are affected by Covid is very serious and that people should co-operate with the government in maintaining control and protect themselves.

Mongol (1,060.5 per million), Lot (941.2 per million) and Limerick (895.3) counties had the highest number of infections.

Covid prevalence was relatively low in the counties of Wicklow (195.2), Tipperary (250.7) and Kildare (277.3).
