DUBLIN: A COVID-19 test booking portal has been launched for people arriving into Ireland from overseas. People arriving from other countries will be able to book for day-five COVID-19 RT-PCR tests through the new internet portal.
Those entering the country must produce a negative/non-detected PCR test result. They must also self-quarantine for two weeks. If the person tests negative for COVID-19 again five days after their arrival, the 14-day quarantine can be ended. However, the Government continues to advise people to avoid non-essential travel.
The Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly said the country has made significant progress in controlling the spread of COVID-19, but that the arrival of foreign travellers poses the risk of importing variants from overseas.
Mr. Donnelly said restrictions on non-essential international travel would be eased only with the implementation of the European Union’s Digital Green Certificate system on July 19.
About the vaccination, Minister wrote on Twitter: “This weekend we’re expecting to administer the three millionth COVID-19 vaccine dose in Ireland. This is an amazing achievement and well done and thanks to all of those involved.”
HSE Chief Executive Paul Reid said that 53% of the adult population has received their first dose of the vaccine, and 900,000 people gotten their second dose.
Vaccine registration for 40-year-olds continues on the HSE portal. Those aged 41 can register today, followed by 40-year-olds on Sunday.
