Operations at Wexford general hospital are returning to normal

Wexford: The operations of the Wexford General Hospital, where patients were evacuated following the fire, are returning to normal. The hospital, including the maternity section, will reopen this morning, according to officials. Other services will also be started in a phased manner.

The outpatient department is expected to open on Monday morning next week. As per Linda O’Leary, hospital manager, the fire caused significant damage to the hospital.

Engineers and technical experts are investigating to determine the cause of the fire and the extent of the damage. It will be clear only after receiving this report. They stated that it is still unknown how the fire started. The fire started in a plant room of the hospital. It is believed that the problem was caused by a pump or motor.

There are still 27 patients being treated at the hospital. They reported that 90 patients had been discharged. About 100 patients were transferred to other hospitals. The hospital’s repairs will begin soon. The government has promised to provide all necessary assistance, including 96 additional hospital beds. They are expected to be available soon.

According to management, when the fire broke out, the hospital staff awoke and went to work. The patients in the intensive care unit and critical care unit received the most attention and consideration. It was also a relief that there was sufficient staff on duty. The hospital’s helpline is still active. The management also stated that information related to the transfer of patients is available at the number 053-9153012.
