“Paris 2024 Olympics to Kick Off with Historic Seine River Opening Ceremony on July 26”

The Paris 2024 Olympics will commence with a historic Opening Ceremony on the River Seine on Friday, July 26, marking the first time the ceremony will be held outside a traditional stadium. This open-air parade along a 6km stretch of the river will start at Austerlitz Bridge and end at Trocadéro, in front of the Eiffel Tower. The event will kick off 16 days of elite competition across 32 disciplines.

India will be represented by 112 athletes competing in 69 medal events across 16 sports, led by flag-bearers PV Sindhu and Sharath Kamal. The Indian contingent will wear traditional outfits designed by Tarun Tahiliani, featuring ikat-inspired prints and Banarasi brocade in the colours of the national flag.

The parade will feature performers joining delegations and passengers on the boats, passing key Olympic venues and Parisian landmarks such as Notre Dame Cathedral and Pont Neuf. The ceremony will conclude at Trocadéro, with French President Emmanuel Macron delivering the opening remarks and lighting the Olympic cauldron.

Over 10,000 athletes from 206 countries will participate, with Greece and the Refugee Olympic Team being introduced first. Team GB’s flag bearers will be diver Tom Daley and rower Helen Glover. Artistic director Thomas Jolly aims to showcase France’s cultural diversity and richness. Rumours suggest performances by Celine Dion and Aya Nakamura, adding to the anticipation of the event. Spectators will line the Seine, with 326,000 tickets sold to witness this historic occasion.
