Pilots strike: Thousands of air passengers will be affected..

DUBLIN: The impending pilots’ strike at Aer Lingus is set to impact thousands of passengers, with the airline expected to cancel up to 20% of its flights daily from June 26. Approximately 8,000 passengers per day are anticipated to be affected, primarily on short-haul routes. These cancellations may occur with little notice, heightening passenger concerns.

The pilots will commence their work-to-rule strike at midnight next Wednesday. This timing coincides with the onset of the holiday season, during which thousands of tourists are expected to travel via Aer Lingus, thereby amplifying the disruption’s impact. Prime Minister Simon Harris has urged both parties to engage in negotiations to avert the strike.

Aer Lingus has announced that it will cancel between 10% and 20% of its services during the first five days of the strike, from Wednesday, June 26, to Sunday, June 30. The airline will inform affected customers of the cancellations within the next two days.

To accommodate inconvenienced passengers, Aer Lingus is offering a free flight change option for those travelling between June 26 and July 2. Passengers can opt to cancel their trips and request a refund or voucher. The airline will directly notify all travel agents and passengers about these options. Additionally, any updates and information will be available on the company’s ‘Travel Advisory’ page.
