Father John Bok, 87, was on his way to Sunday service at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Milford on October 2 when the SUV driver had a seizure.
The stricken man’s SUV barreled at Bok’s car, but the vehicle swerved off the road, according to the video.
He smashed through a road sign and appeared to be heading straight towards the side of Father Bok’s car. However, as luck would have it, the SUV sprang into the air and sailed directly over Bok. The car fell upright, totally missing the driver’s side and leaving him unharmed.
Bok kept driving as the severely damaged SUV crashed on all four wheels. He said that because he is blind in his left eye and uses hearing aids, he was unaware of his near-death experience until hours later.
Bok claimed that he had no idea the car had gone over the top since he was gazing ahead and it was to his left and above. He said that his eye saw something pass by, but he assumed it was a bird or something similar.
Father Bok was alerted of the event many hours later after being contacted by a police officer who knew him while eating at a restaurant after mass had concluded.
The officer informed him of his fortunate escape and showed him a video of the near-collision, which had been recorded by a funeral home across the street. The footage was eventually uploaded to YouTube.
He also stated that the police officer kept him up to date on the status of the young man driving the runaway SUV, who was okay after being checked out at the hospital.
Fortunately, no one was hurt or killed in the terrifying incident.
