Prime Minister Narendra Modi Arrives in Austria After Concluding Russia Visit, Holds Talks with President Putin

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Austria on Tuesday following a two-day visit to Russia, where he engaged in bilateral talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin. During their meeting, PM Modi emphasised India’s commitment to peace, stating that peace negotiations cannot proceed amidst ongoing conflict. This marked the second interaction between the two leaders in as many days.

Addressing the Indian diaspora in Moscow, Modi referred to Russia as an “all-weather friend” and vowed to work three times harder in his third term as prime minister. Upon his arrival in Moscow on Monday, Modi was accorded a state of honour and hosted by Putin for a private dinner. Expressing his warm welcome, Putin took Modi on a ride in his electric car around his residence, Novo-Ogaryovo, a moment shared by the Russian Embassy in India.

Russia has responded to India’s request to cease the recruitment of Indian nationals as support staff for the Russian military and to facilitate the return of those currently serving, according to top sources. Modi and Putin have met 16 times over the past decade, with their last in-person meeting occurring on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, in 2022.
