Public Sector Workers to Receive Initial Pay Increase Following Union Approval of Latest Deal

Dublin: Public sector workers have officially ratified a new pay deal, resulting in a series of wage increases over a two-and-a-half-year period. The agreement, reached in January, will see pay rises of up to 17.3% for lower-paid employees.

The first increase, backdated to January 1st, will be 2.25%. This deal, benefiting around 385,000 public servants, includes provisions for local bargaining and marks the end of the Financial Emergency Measures in the Public Interest legislation introduced during the financial crisis. Unions hailed the agreement, emphasising its immediate benefits and the opportunity for additional negotiations.

Minister Paschal Donohoe praised the balanced approach, highlighting its role in fostering collaboration and continuing public service reform. Implementation of the pay increase is underway, with the majority expected to be in effect by the end of April.
