Qualcomm Technologies with new job opportunities in Cork

Qualcomm Technologies is set to create hundreds of jobs in Cork. The company says the new R&D facility, which will open in Cork City, will create hundreds of expert opportunities in Cork.

Qualcomm, a wireless tech company, is preparing to invest 78 million euros in Penrose Dock in Cork city for its subsidiary Qualcomm Technologies as part of its expansion of its presence in Ireland.

Last month, Qualcomm Technologies moved to its new 4,600-square-meter facility at Pentos Dock.

The company said the expansion will create hundreds of skilled engineering opportunities over the next four years. The project is being implemented with the support of IDA Ireland.

At the same time, IDA CEO Martin Shanahan said it was a terrific project for Cork and the southwestern region of Ireland.

The company will create new jobs in digital, analog, machine learning, automotive, CAD, automation, system evaluation and innovative design.

New opportunities will enable the development of new technologies and software engineering on the next generation Application Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) chips.

Ajay Bawale, vice-president for engineering at Qualcomm Technologies, said: “We are excited about the new workplace in Penrose Dock. Not only are the offices state of the art, but they also have specially purposed and designed labs to enable continued groundbreaking security and validation work.”

At the same time, Deputy Prime Minister Leo Varadkar said that the decision to expand the company was a great achievement for Cork and that he was pleased that Ireland was known as one of the world’s leading research and innovation destinations.
