Rani Mukherjee’s “Mrs. Chatterjee vs. Norway” is based on a true story of an Indian couple

It has been more than a decade since the epic dispute between an Indian couple and the Norway government over the custody of two children captivated the globe.
In 2011, the Norway child welfare service, popularly known as Barnevarne, took away Anurup and Sagarika Bhattacharya’s two children and placed them in foster care. After a lengthy legal battle, In January 2013, the Calcutta High Court gave the mother custody of her son Abhigyan and daughter Aishwarya.

The couple’s struggle and quest to reconnect with their children have now been adapted into a film starring Rani Mukherjee.

The film “Mrs. Chatterjee vs. Norway” is set to be released on March 17, this year, about 12 years after Sagarika’s ordeal began.
