Saurya Airlines Bombardier CRJ200 Crashes After Takeoff at Kathmandu’s Tribhuvan International Airport, 18 Dead
On Wednesday, a Saurya Airlines aircraft with 19 people onboard crashed while attempting to take off from Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu. The plane veered off the runway, resulting in the deaths of 18 passengers; the pilot is the sole survivor.
Nepal’s aviation authority reported that the aircraft, bound for Pokhara International Airport, crashed shortly after takeoff on the east side of the runway. Local media displayed images of smoke and wreckage scattered in a ditch, with the fire now under control. Tribhuvan International Airport, the main hub for both international and domestic flights in Nepal, has been closed as emergency crews responded. Although it is the monsoon season, weather conditions were clear with low visibility at the time of the crash.
