Shooting World Cup: Manu Bhaker bags bronze

Olympian shooter Manu Bhaker won the 25m pistol bronze medal at the ISSF Pistol/Rifle World Cup on Saturday, bringing India’s medal tally to seven, including a gold. Bhaker, a multiple World Cup medalist, shot 290 in the precision round on Friday and was well placed for the rapid round on the second day of competition.

On Saturday, she shot three superb series of 98, 99, and 97 to aggregate 294 and advance to the ranking round in third place.

Another Indian, Esha Singh, shot 292 in precision and 289 in rapid to total of 581 and advanced to the ranking round in eighth place.

Bhaker qualified for the medal round as the third qualifier in ranking match 1 with an aggregate of 14 points, along with Germany’s Doreen Vennekamp (14 points), while Esha was eliminated.

Two shooters from the ranking round, China’s Ziyue Du and Yaxuan Xiong, qualified for the medal round with 12 points each, rounding out the quartet vying for top place.

In a tough medal match, Bhaker was no match for Doreen (30 points) and Ziyue Du (29 points), who won gold and silver, respectively, while the Indian could only aggregate 20 points to finish third.
