SSE Airtricity will increase household gas and electricity prices from 1 April

DUBLIN: SSE Airtricity, with millions of customers, is raising rates for cooking gas and electricity. The SSE has decided to increase its household gas and electricity prices from 1 April.

It is clear that the standard price of electricity will increase by 6.2% per week, an increase of €1.21 per week. Gas prices will rise 4.5% or €0.62 a week, while a household refueling twice will face a 5.5% increase to 1.84 euros a week.

Darragh Cassidy from bonkers.ie said: “SSE is the third biggest energy supplier in Ireland behind Electric Ireland and Bord Gáis Energy so this increase will be felt by hundreds of thousands of customers.”

SSE Airtricity had earlier slashed its electricity prices by 2.7% and gas prices by 11.5%.

The company says this was due to the high cost of operating the transmission and distribution network. They also state that this is beyond the control of the company. This is the first increase since 2018 and SSE Airtricity said it had reduced prices last summer.

“Pass-through charges are outside our control and unfortunately have increased considerably – including electricity network and market charges,” said David Manning, Director of Home Energy at SSE Airtricity.
