DUBLIN: Met Éireann had warned counties such as Cork, Kerry, Limerick and Tipperary about the possibility of persistent rainfall by issuing the status yellow rainfall.
Weather advisory is also in place across the country until 6pm tomorrow, warning that spells of heavy rain will lead to surface and river flooding.
Floods are also expected in some coastal areas due to low pressure, high tides and coastal winds.
Meanwhile, many local roads in the Midlands in the south and west of the country have been closed due to heavy rains.
The Westmeath County Council told motorists that the Clonown Road out of Athlone had closed following heavy flooding.
