Steve McQueen Honoured with Volta Lifetime Achievement Award

Renowned artist and filmmaker Steve McQueen was honoured with the prestigious Volta Lifetime Achievement Award at the Dublin International Film Festival. Named after Ireland’s first dedicated cinema in Dublin, the Volta Award holds significant esteem within the Irish film industry.

Preceding the award ceremony scheduled, McQueen will participate in the inaugural Tanqueray 0.0% Film Club event. Joining him will be esteemed Irish actor and screenwriter, Mark O’Halloran.

McQueen’s artistic endeavours span both traditional cinema and gallery spaces, garnering acclaim for his impactful works that tackle themes of class, racism, and historical injustices. Notable among his achievements are the critically acclaimed film “12 Years a Slave” (2013) and the groundbreaking “Small Axe” series (2021).

Earlier this year, McQueen’s comprehensive documentary “Occupied City” (2023), offering insight into daily life in Amsterdam during the Nazi occupation, received widespread acclaim upon its UK release. Additionally, an upcoming immersive installation commissioned by New York’s Dia Beacon promises to explore themes of time, space, and human perception, with a subsequent exhibition at Schaulager slated for June 2025.
