DUBLIN: The Irish government has begun to implement a rent tax credit for all legal tenants.
Each party to the tenancy agreement will receive a €500 tax credit. A married couple will receive a rent tax credit of 500 euros, for a total of 1,000 euros.

Conditions applied:
Your landlord must be registered with the Private Residential Tenancies Board in order to qualify for the tax credit (PRTB). When a long-term tenant moves in, the landlord must notify the PRTB of the new tenant’s information.
The Revenue can determine whether you are eligible for a tax credit once the PPS number and details of your landlord are obtained from the address in your application. The money will then be deposited directly into your bank account by Revenue.

The “Rent-a-Room Scheme” is also eligible for tax credit for those who only rent a room on rent, as are rent-paying parents of students under the age of 23 who live on rent.
How to apply?
Tax credits can be applied for directly through your Revenue Account or through Revenue-Authorized Tax Agents.

Sign in to myAccount in www.ros.ie
Go to the ‘PAYE Services’ section
Click ‘Review your Tax 2019–2022’ and select 2022
Click ‘Request’ under the ‘Statement of Liability’ section
Scroll down to ‘Complete your Income Tax Return’
Click ‘Rent Tax Credit’ and complete the requested information.
