Tesco Ireland Doubles DEIS Primary Schools Supported by Stronger Starts Programme

Dublin: Tesco Ireland, one of the country’s largest grocery retailers with over 25 years in the market, operates 177 stores nationwide, supporting over 45,000 jobs directly and indirectly. Tesco focusses on building strong communities and improving children’s health.

Earlier this year, Tesco Ireland achieved a significant milestone by doubling the number of DEIS primary schools in its Stronger Starts programme, ahead of schedule. Now, 240 schools and 5,400 children receive weekly fresh food packs, promoting healthier meals at home. The programme has already distributed over 2 million meals, aligning with Tesco’s commitment to tackling hunger as an SDG Champion.

To address hunger beyond the school term, Tesco launched the Stronger Starts Summer Food Collection in 115 stores, encouraging customers to donate non-perishable food items for distribution by local Family Resource Centres.

Tesco also advances sustainability by reducing energy consumption by 25% and introducing 50 biomethane-fuelled trucks to its fleet, significantly cutting carbon emissions. These efforts reflect Tesco Ireland’s dedication to improving children’s health, supporting communities, and enhancing environmental sustainability.
