The government has decided to keep schools and public transport operating as normal, despite snow

Dublin: The government has decided to keep schools and public transport running as normal despite the snow and light rain. The decision was taken at a National Emergency Coordination Group meeting chaired by Housing Minister Dara O’Brien.

The National Emergency Coordination Group met to assess the winter’s impact. The meeting was attended by Met observers and heads of government departments. The meeting advised the public to carry on as usual and to keep an eye on transportation providers’ websites and social media channels for updates. The Department of Housing confirmed that schools would continue to operate normally. Since it is not raining, the fallen snow is not melting.

The possibility of a “red alert” has been ruled out by the housing minister. The Minister stated that supply to the energy grid is stable and that positive responses from AirGrid and Gas Network Ireland have been received. Local governments have also begun their winter maintenance plans. Extensive gritting is ongoing wherever necessary.
