There will be changes in the cabinet too… Departments and junior ministers may change

Dublin: There will be a reorganisation of the cabinet in line with Leo Varadkar becoming prime minister. This was agreed upon during a meeting of the tripartite leaders, Micheal Martin, Leo Varadkar, and Eamon Ryan.

A notable change is that Micheal Martin will be the Deputy Prime Minister. It is also noted that there will be no further change because the Deputy Prime Minister will take over the Department of Enterprise, Trade, and Employment, which Varadkar previously handled. According to Fianna Fail sources, Micheal Martin is interested in the Department of Foreign Affairs.

Party sources say that if that happens, Fianna Fail will be Martin’s last turn as leader. There are those who think that he will be excluded from Fianna Fail politics as he will be abroad most of the time.

Finance Minister Paschal Donau and Public Expenditure Minister Michael McGrath are expected to switch departments. Green Party ministers like Ryan, Catherine Martin, and Roderick O’Gorman will not change their positions.

Darragh O’Brien, the housing minister, may also remain in office.
Michael Martin attended the European Council summit last day. This is Martin’s last official event as Prime Minister. Martin also received a farewell message from EU Council President Charles Michael.
