Barack Hussein Obama was elected the 44th President of the United States on November 4, 2008. The Democratic first-term U.S. senator from Illinois, the son of a White mother from Kansas and a Kenyan father, would go on to mark his place in history as the country’s first black commander-in-chief.

Rowling’s popular series became accessible to audiences on Nov. 16, 2001, after making its global premiere in London on Nov. 4, 2001, and quickly jumping over the pond for the American celebration. It would go on to gross more than $974.7 million at the international box office, get three Academy Award nominations, and pave the way for the development of seven additional feature films.
