Two Dead and Several Injured — Including Indians — in Serious Three-Vehicle Collision in Meath

Meath: Two people were killed and several others, including members of the Indian community, were injured in a major collision involving a bus, a lorry and a car in County Meath. The drivers of both the bus and the lorry died at the scene, while injured passengers from the bus and car were taken to hospital for treatment.

The crash occurred at around 6.30 a.m. on the R132 near Gormanstown. The lorry driver, employed by a company in Swords, and the bus driver were pronounced dead at the scene. A 40-year-old Indian woman driving the car was seriously injured and admitted to Beaumont Hospital, where she is on a ventilator. A teenage girl travelling with her also sustained serious injuries and was transferred from Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital to Temple Street Children’s Hospital. Many members of the Indian community gathered at Beaumont after receiving news of the accident.

Preliminary assessments suggest that the collision may have occurred when the bus driver attempted to avoid a seven-seater vehicle entering from a side road. A Garda forensic investigation is under way to determine the full circumstances.

The R132 was closed following the incident, with traffic diverted. The Route 101 bus involved was travelling from Dublin City to Drogheda via Balbriggan and Dublin Airport. Several Indian nurses were on board, though none suffered serious injuries.

Transport Minister Darragh O’Brien described the collision as “shocking” and urged drivers to exercise extreme caution in the lead-up to Christmas. Meath East Sinn Féin TD Darren O’Rourke extended condolences to the families, noting that the tragedy comes just a week after a crash in Dundalk that claimed the lives of five young people.

Jean O’Sullivan, CEO of the bus operator, said the vehicle was destroyed in the accident and expressed sympathies to the families, friends and colleagues of the two deceased drivers. Gardaí have appealed for witnesses to come forward.
