US and health committees urge people to avoid travel to India in the event of rapid spread of COVID-19
DUBLIN: Countries including the United States have urged people to avoid travelling to India in the event of a second wave of COVID-19 that is uncontrollable.
The US Center for Disease Control and Prevention said that even those who have been vaccinated are at risk of contracting COVID-19 and should not travel to India in the current situation.
Those in urgent need should be fully vaccinated before travelling to India, officials said. There are indications that European countries, including Ireland, will continue the US stance.
The European Health Advisory Council has also warned that it is best to avoid travelling to COVID-affected countries, including India, for any non-essential reason.
The spread of COVID-19 in India continues to be severe. A total of 2,59,170 new cases were reported in the country on Tuesday. Within 24 hours, 1761 deaths were reported due to COVID-19.
The total number of COVID cases in the country rose to 1,53,21,089. Currently, the number of active corona virus cases in the country is 20,31,977. So far, 1,80,530 people have died from the virus.
The Central Government has announced that all people over the age of 18 will be vaccinated from May 1 in the event of a severe COVID-19 spread. The move comes at a time when the country is facing a shortage of COVID vaccines.
