ENNIS: Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Vatican Secretary of State and a leading candidate for the next Pope, has arrived in Ireland to attend a significant ordination Mass. The Mass will ordain Monsignor Seamus Horgan from Ennis as the first Nuncio to South Sudan. The ceremony will take place at the Cathedral of St. Peter and Paul in Ennis this Saturday at 11 a.m..
High-Profile Attendees
The event will feature an array of prominent figures, including Cardinal Parolin, Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle from the Philippines, another potential papal candidate, and Cardinal Christophe Louis Pierre from America. Bishop Fintan Monaghan of Killaloe will lead the rites, and the Indian community of Ennis will participate in the ceremonies. Indian Choir members Ethan, Nathan, and Alan will contribute to the musical aspect of the service.
Monsignor Seamus Horgan’s Journey
Monsignor Seamus Horgan, born in Ennis in 1968, was ordained to the priesthood on June 11, 1994. After six years of pastoral ministry in the Diocese of Killaloe, he pursued further studies in Rome, obtaining a Licentiate in Canon Law from the Pontifical Gregorian University. He then joined the Pontifical Ecclesiastical Academy in Rome.
Following the completion of his doctoral studies in Canon Law in 2005, Monsignor Horgan entered the diplomatic service of the Church. He has served in various capacities within the Church’s diplomatic corps, leading to his recent appointment as Nuncio to South Sudan.
